Instructions

Week 1: Lecture (4/2/25)
Our first week of class is combining with other specialisations and gathered at LT 1. Though there were some location issues which hindered some time but eventually we were instructed to find group mates of 4 people and were also told to brainstorm certain topics/issues for our further app proposal.

First consultation: 5/2/25

Task 1: Proposal Development (W1-4)

To-do:
  • Project Title
  • Group Name
  • Project Development Plan
  • Project Insights
  • How Might We Statement
  • Interview Questions
  • Interview 3 ppl
  • Affinity Diagram

(Week 1)
In this week, we have brainstormed our topics to choose for our Major Project and also finding issues that people are facing currently.

We have conducted a few meetings to get more aligned with the topic and ideas together and we had our meeting minutes here.

In the end, we have decided to go for a self-care app that specifically gives only to women so that they can empower each other and listen to each other's struggles on the app.

(Week 2)
Our lecturer, Dr. Wong Chui Yin indeed gave us helpful feedbacks to improve on our previous week's task progress which were on the topic ideas and the mind map, and she said that the mind map on what app features we can include in our app is not necessary to include it for this task but it's good to see our ideations.

Right after the consultation, our lecturer told us to start to brainstorming on our interview questions and we did that in class and consulted her again, and she said that the questions sounded more like giving the interviewees a solution on self care app rather than understanding what's the issue. So miss did a quick role-play on one of our group members
, basically asking her as the interviewer on more therapy-like questions. For example, "Have you ever felt uncomfortable in a situation?". After making amendments on the questions and being approved by lecturer, we can now proceed to the interviewing part.

(Week 3)
Finished our interviews, where each of us interview 3 people.
We
hosted another meeting to further discuss on the Affinity Diagram that is our next step of task 1 and we did it together in the FigJam Board while on the call.

Consultation day (online)
Lecturer then corrected our Affinity Diagram and we had to amend a lot of stuff because before this we we just did what the Internet demonstrated to us on what an Affinity Diagram is rather than the lecturer's method. Her method was more detailed and we found out more information from our interviewees more in depth through this. Then we just continued to do our parts and amend what's needed.

(Week 4)
Task 1 Submission
We were instructed by our lecturer to do our own individual Canva slides on our Task 1 progress so here's mine below.

Task 2: Design Proposition (W4-5)

To-do:
  • User personas
  • User Journey Map

Task 3: Concept Presentation (W6-7)

To-do:
  • Information Architecture (Card sorting method)
  • Design Inspiration
  • User/Work Flow
  • Design Guideline (Individual)
  • Lo-fi Prototype (Individual)
  • Group Presentation
(Week 6)
Continuing our progress on our group's FigJam Board.

We also did a card sorting activity where we asked our interviewees to do this card sorting online. We used UX Tweak for this and we have input the results in our FigJam Board.

Fig 3.2 UX Tweak card sorting results

We encountered an issue where based on the card sorting results we noticed that the interviewees might not be familiar with what our app feature was and what does it do etc so in the end we resorted to making our own card sorting manually through FigJam Board so we called for another meeting to discuss and card sort together since we have to sort this out before proceeding into doing the user flow, design guidelines and the Lo-fi prototype for our app.

Here's our card sorting from each of the members. Then, we picked the best one to start it off first and eventually combined some features from other member's results and came out with the finalised app layout.

App features
  • App startup (like onboarding page)
  • Forum Page (Connect with other people and sharing thoughts)
  • Locket Page (Personal reflection/journal page)
  • Character Page (Mood check-in + companion)
  • Account Page

Now onto the user flow first. So Katelyn assigned each of us to do one of the main app feature flow (Fig.3.4 green box). I did the App Startup and the Locket Page's user flow initially but Katelyn and Iman made several adjustments to our user flow to ensure each of the pages flows better.

After this, we then proceeded to do our individual tasks which is design guidelines and lo-fi app wireframe. The tasks can be done in group too but we decided that it's better for us to do it individually as we have your own ideas on how the app looks visually.

We also started working on our presentation slides on Canva and practiced speaking the contents out together as we only have a limited time (around 10 minutes) to present our project on the presentation day itself.

Feedbacks
W1 (5/2)
- What are the issues/topics currently? Not just focusing on what apps to do
- Either using FigJam board/Miro Board for the brainstorming
- To do: Interview questions + research on your idea more

W2 (12/2)
- Keyword of the issue: safety? but there's psychological, physical, and also emotional safety but target is women so need to explore more.
- Problem statement too vague (Eg: Inner child part)
- Elaborate more on the objectives part
- To link the issues/problem with the objective
- Your research should always link back to problem statement
- For the app features, jumped into the app solution too fast

W3 Online consultation (21/2)
- Not focus on the app first, just focus on the issue for now
- The questions should lead you to find out what are the interviewee's struggles to aid in this self care app
- Listen to the interviewee's experience/stories rather than focusing on self-care.

W5 (5/3)
- User persona and User Journey map parallel
- Stay at home mom- What's the needs? (To state the user needs)
- User needs bring you to think about the solutions and strategies better
- Pain points and frustrations: To point out user's struggles that circulates around the user's age (Eg: menopause >50 years old)

User Journey Map
- Opportunities: How do you create awareness to point out their frustrations?
- Loyalty: can be sharing of their testimonials

W7 (18/3)
- Presentation start by group leader. Present your slides lesser as we have more than 50 pages (our current slides can be for submission instead of presentation)
- Research part can be hidden for presentation
- No need to show affinity diagram during presentation
- Interview questions: just verbally mention briefly or u can show it/just hide it (just mention one word for each sections)
- Summarise each of the user personas briefly
- Time your presentation wisely

Reflections
My personal experience with this module was fairly confusing at first as me and my group mates were working on the topic/issue for this project.

I find that task delegation is really important while also having a clear communication too will help a lot when working in a group. We can't just put most of the burdens on ourselves and just do it but instead by communicating to our groupmates in what they can help to do the task would be more efficient and they would feel more included too in doing the tasks. I often find that I wasn't able to do other tasks and it's also that I didn't ask if they needed any help but before I asked they have already finished their part or even the extra stuff which is nice but it kind of lost meaning of having a group and working with people.
