Final Project: Animated Infographic Video

In my group, we started to quickly discuss on what topic to use with the design framework of creating an awareness, explaining a process, and defining a concept. After several discussions and meetings together, we have decided to go for creating awareness video which talks about Ponzi scheme.

After proposing this idea to Mr Fauzi and gotten approval to proceed, we then had a meeting days later and then split into two groups, one is doing the scripting while the other is on the storyboard. I'm part of the storyboard team.

Scene 2- What is a Ponzi Scheme?
Scene 3- Bernie Madoff Case
Scene 4- Signs to look for
Scene 5- Ending/Outro

After this, we had a physical meeting where we discuss on the drawing assets and who's doing which scene, voiceovers, and assigning who'll be in the animators team as well. I ended up being part of the drawing team and I'm working out Scene 3 (Bernie Madoff Case) with Katelyn.

We then had another physical meeting with the drawing team and started to sketch out some ideas through Procreate/Illustrator. After that, we made a Google Sheet and had a script breakdown then added our storyboard sketches.

We also listed down what assets that we needed for each scenes to ease our digitalisation process.

Digitisation progress
Firstly, each of us tried to design how our character A and B would look like in our physical meeting. In the end we decided to go for Hui Yi's character design.

This is me and Katelyn's working AI file screenshotted. We took turns to do the assets in Illustrator as it only allows one user at a time.

These were our initial drawings. The hard part at the start was trying to cartoon-ify Bernie Madoff since he's a real person.

And here's our finalised drawing assets for each of the scenes in Scene 3. Some of the assets we have reused from other scenes/drawing team like the character designs, cash and profile assets. This eased the drawing progress and made it more efficient to finish our work.

After being done with the drawings, we passed on these drawing assets to our animator team and they proceeded in doing the animating part and also the last part of this project.

Reflections

Honestly speaking, this project really needs a lot of team work as it's 10 people in a group. Initially we had some internal miscommunications and having different topic ideas, but all those discussions and physical meetings really helped in understanding one another slightly better and able to finalise our topic idea. However, I would say that the process in the drawing part was pretty stressful as things kept changing and time is slowly running out but I'm happy in how the animation video has turned out.

Throughout this module and especially this group project has made me observed that at time we have to learn in compromising some stuff instead of insisting your own ideas because it may not be helpful and that is where one of the reasons that a group can have disputes which also leads me to observe that having a clear communication is crucial as well in the group so that work can be done smoothly.
